ELEPHANT GARLIC

FRENCH WHITE

EGYPTIAN PINK

Also known as Super Giant Garlic (S.G.G.) the name refers to its massive size which is around twice that of normal garlic cloves. 4 - 6 Large cloves develop from the bulb. The flavour is milder and sweeter than that of true garlic varieties due to its leek ancestory.

DESCRIPTION / TASTE

Roasting, baking or grilling will enhance its flavour most optimally. Its large size makes it perfect for slicing & deep frying as chips, raw in salads and most delicous slow roasted in foil. A particular culinary delicacy are the scapes of the Elephant garlic plant. These immature green plant tops are incredibly tender & sweet - much like Asparagus only better!

GROWING

For those with the space, Elephant garlic makes an attractive addition to any garden, with lovely flower spikes up to 1.5m tall. It likes full sun and moist conditions. Plant in March / April to harvest year end.

Plant cloves 20cm apart

Remove the scapes as they appear to allow the plant to focus its energy on bulb growth.
